Design Language | A Mapping of User Interfaces

In designing various interfaces, and more so researching existing interfaces, I found that there are a few key adjectives that are used to describe screen based systems. Though it is possible to span across the various styles, the more successful interfaces tend to be well founded in one style over another with some “borrowings” from the other design languages. I define the four camps of interface design as Macintosh versus PC and Flash verses Web 2.0. The interface mapping chart allows me to place products along the spectrum and to see how they fit next to each other. Green indicates physical products in the real world, Red indicates computer programs, and Blue indicated websites.
